![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Two Dollar Radio acknowledges that this land where we live and work, commonly known as "Columbus, Ohio," is the contemporary territory of the Shawnee, Miami, Hopewell, and other Indigenous Nations. What they have in common are their feelings of elation, pride, confidence, freedom and ecstasy as a direct result of coming out as non-cisgender, and how coming to terms with their gender has brought unimaginable joy into their lives. In this groundbreaking anthology, nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid, and intersex writers share their experiences of gender euphoria: an agender dominatrix being called “Daddy,” an Arab trans man getting his first tattoos, a trans woman embracing her inner fighter. But for many non-cisgender people, it’s gender euphoria that pushes forward their transition: the joy the first time a parent calls them by their new chosen name, the first time they have the confidence to cut their hair short, the first time they truly embrace themself. So often the stories shared by trans people about their transition center on gender dysphoria: a feeling of deep discomfort with their birth-assigned gender, and a powerful catalyst for coming out or transitioning. ![]() GENDER EUPHORIA: a powerful feeling of happiness experienced as a result of moving away from one’s birth-assigned gender. ![]() When we found out it was about a giant killer mosquito it just seemed to ridiculous to take serious as a horror novel, then the part about his past and neighbor kind of felt like his attempt to keep it in the adult horror category, but the ending was pure sci-fi. It is equal parts detective/mystery as it is horror and then the ending is just pure sci-fi. The horror aspects of the book are so rediculous that the only way they can really be taken serious would be in a YA novel, which is kind of what it feels like while reading except for a few bits of nastier stuff that make sure it stays in the adult category. ![]() ![]() The problem is that it blends genres in a way that don't really work. It has good characters and as always with Ryan C. With this one I decided to just do a quick cut and past review of my final thoughts that I posted in a group read that I did and make it a spoilers only review but after seeing that it only has 3 other reviews (two from others in my group that read it with me) I have decided to write out a longer spoiler free review that will give people a better idea of what they are getting into if there is anyone out there reading reviews to decide if they want to purchase this book. So, I like to write a review and then read other reviews. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Julian is recovering from his physical scars from being held captive and Nora from her emotional scars. Claremont drew up a full backstory for the character, and then meted out the slow reveals over the course of a decade and a half: Wolverine’s first name was Logan his skeleton was laced with an indestructible metal he had a mutant healing power he’d fought in World War II his father was the savage assassin Sabretooth. Claremont didn’t technically create Wolverine - that credit goes to writer Len Wein and artist John Romita - but he did, with artists like Dave Cockrum and John Byrne, flesh out a stock tough guy into a contradiction-filled man of mystery. No, it’s Chris Claremont, who wrote the monthly Uncanny X-Men comic (along with many, many spinoffs) from 1975 to 1991.
